Reading matters

Start Making A Reader Today helps spread the word about the importance of reading to children.

Two years ago, when Alex Stork first started reading with then kindergartner Teshome Dawson at Roosevelt Elementary School, the little boy wasn’t so sure of the situation.

“Teshome was very reserved when we started as a reading pair,” Alex recalled. “As we began to find books and stories about things that he enjoyed and were interesting to him, he became really engaged with our conversations and SMART was something that he was so enthusiastic about.”
