U.S. Attorney for Oregon Scott Erik Asphaug announced Friday that former WNBA player Shoni Iman Schimmel faces assault charges related to a domestic incident.

Schimmel, who played for the Atlanta Dream and New York Liberty, was indicted for “assault by strangulation of an intimate dating partner and assault resulting in substantial bodily injury” in relation to an alleged June 13, 2021 incident on the Umatilla Indian Reservation.
